Colette Moynihan
Attorney, Moynihan Law Office
I defend drivers. It's the only kind of case I take, which means I know the hearing rooms, the clerks and the paperwork well.
I grew up in Dorchester and learned to drive on the Southeast Expressway, which may explain my patience with traffic. After law school I worked as an assistant district attorney, mostly in district court, where drunk-driving and license cases fill the morning list.
I opened this office in 2016 to sit on the other side of those cases. I keep it small so that every client deals with me, from the first email to the last hearing.
Cases I take
- Drunk-driving charges
- License suspension hearings
- Reckless driving
- Commercial license tickets
- Drivers under 21

Why only driving cases
A driving charge looks small from the outside: a stop, a test, a ticket. For the person holding it, it's the commute, the job, the insurance bill and sometimes the family's only car.
Doing one kind of work lets me do it carefully. I know which records to ask for, which deadlines matter most, and how a hearing officer reads a file. That's the whole of the practice.
